THE United Church-run school teachers will be attending a week-long retreat in Mendi, Southern Highlands, starting today.
Mission education secretary John Pisa told The National that the retreat is being revived after 15-years with the purpose of bringing the 151 teachers in the Highlands region.
Theme for the retreat is ‘Fear God and Serve Him’.
He said teachers from the 18 church-run schools will be discussing the importance of the teachers in church-run schools, code of ethics of the church, discuss issues affecting church institutions and get to know each other.
Reverend Bishop Wesis Parop and bishop-elect Reverend Hun Morris would be among other guest speakers.
Officials from the Teaching Service Commission have also been invited to speak to the teachers. “This is not a right time to hold such retreat when country is facing money problem but, we feel it’s more important to educate and empower our teachers to educate our young generations to become better citizens in the near future,” he said.
“The retreat would impprove the teachers’ position in delivering lessons to students and that would instil their students to be better people.”
