United Church calls on members to ‘arise and shine’

MEMBERS of the United Church in Papua New Guinea have been urged to “arise and shine” in God.
Bishop Reverend Veburi Dabada based his message on Isaiah 60:1-6 during the 50th synod of the church’s urban region on Friday at the Reverend Sione Kami Memorial Church in Port Moresby.
The urban region includes Port Moresby, Lae, Goroka, Madang, Wewak, Vanimo, Popondetta and Lorengau.
Dabada had served the church for years and was once a missionary to Australia.
“We have personal problems, family issues and national challenges which we have to address. Finance, relationship and other factors lead to worry and hopelessness,” he said.
But he said people should continue to praise God and serve Him.
“When you and I cannot find our way out of the problems around us, we must look up.
“There is hope in God and we must trust in Him. He is the answer to our problems. Therefore, arise and shine.”
The week-long meeting will end tomorrow. Issues to be discussed are church matters in the region and the country, election of the bishop and pastoral apppointments.
The bi-annual meeting is hosted this year by the North Port Moresby circuit.
More than 100 delegates are attending.
