The United church’s Port Moresby north circuit marked the 13th annual harvest celebration at the Waigani United Church in Port Moresby yesterday.

The gathering attracted people from all churches of the Port Moresby north circuit, friends, visitors and invited guests who participated and witnessed the day-long celebrations.

Chairman of harvest committee Api Kali said the programme was initiated by late William Numa, a prominent United Church pioneer in 2000, after he returned from Jamaica where he was ministering for some years.

“Jamaica was poverty-striken during those days and Numa has literally felt and witnessed the harshness of life there,” Kali said.

“He lived with poor people and worked for them. When he returned to PNG he initiated the harvest programme purposely to help people who are in need, outcasts, sick, disabled and unfortunate individuals.”

The harvest celebration’s programme was based on the theme “love in action makes the differnce”, quoted from Acts 4:32-35.

“On this special occasion we all gather to give back to the Lord what we have been blessed with,” said master of ceremony Charles Reginald.
