United Church names pastor for university

Faith

THE United Church has appointed Ezekia Potol to serve as pastor at the University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) .
His appointment was confirmed in a commissioning service which also reaffirmed Potol’s role as a church missionary.
At the service, Vunairima circuit minister Rev Isaac Kunat said: “We are called by God to serve and not to be served.”
Kunat said Christ was a true model of a good servant.
Kunat said serving was an act of worship to God.
He urged church members to serve with humility and kindness.
The university’s United Church chairman, Inia Bunsa, said it was a significant milestone for the local congregation. He said the church at the university has had no ordained layman, missionary or pastor for almost 20 years.
He said Potol was not new to the university as he spent most of his childhood and youth days on campus.
Bunsa said he believed Potol would contribute meaningfully to nourishing the faith of the church members at the university.
Potol said: “I lay all my life for Christ and I deserve no title or position. I am here to help anybody or any denomination on campus.”
The event was witnessed by university pro-vice-chancellor (academic) Dr Aisak Pue and senior members of the church.
The service ended with a meal.
Potol graduated from PNG Mission School in Toma area.
