CONCERTED efforts are required from every stakeholder and leader at all levels to keep Goroka town clean, Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion said.

He called on all Parliamentarians from Eastern Highlands, business houses, local level government leaders and non-governmental organisations to unite  to keep both Goroka and Kainantu towns in good order.

Dion made this call when launching five new dump trucks for theGoroka Town Authority (GTA) for  rubbish collection in every part of the town.

He said money coming into the districts and towns from the government should be used wisely for  intended purposes.

“I encourage the current Goroka town management for keeping the town in good shape, the current political and administrative leadership seem to be working well and we ought to support them to continue the good work they have started,” Dion said.

Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso hailed the current town management under the leadership of acting Mayor Robin Nick and town manager Harold Abori.

She committed K50,000 towards the Goroka Town Authority as counterpart support in maintaining the upkeep of the town.

Police Minister and Henganofi MP Robert Atiayafa pledge K20,000 for the town and called for similar financial backings from the other eight MPs from Eastern Highlands.

He said Goroka and Kainantu towns served the people of Eastern Highlands and that they deserved  support from all the districts.
