University, communities help Kadovar

STAFF and surrounding communities at PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment have donated cash and in kind towards the East New Britain Kadovar relief appeal.
Vice-Chancellor Prof John Warren, on behalf of the university, presented the donations to acting Gazelle district administrator Nicholas Baroro and his team on Monday.
Warren said when the disaster appeal was launched, staff were willing to donate because they felt a huge sympathy for the affected islanders of Kadovar in East Sepik.
He said this signified that the people of PNG were generous and that giving was part of their culture.
The donation drive team was led by farm and estate manager Alex Nugi and Nancy Galoko, the sister in-charge of the university clinic.
They collected clothing items, pillows, mosquito nets, shoes and K401.25.
Receiving the donation, Baroro said it was now ENB’s turn to assist because the province faced a similar situation during the 1994 twin volcanic eruptions and had received generous assistance from the nation.
He thanked the university community saying such cooperation strengthened the existing relationships among the districts and the institution. The district has been supportive in providing funds and medical supplies to the university clinic.
