University edge Freeway Hox
IT all went down to the wire as University edged Freeway Hox 3-2 in round two of the Fairfax Volleyball Association premier men’s competition on Saturday at the PNG Education Institute.
Both sides applied tremendous pressure in attack and counter-attack but Uni had the last laugh.
Uni, through power drives from Allan Waine, deft placing from setter Emmanuel Tumbonge and good cover play from their team-mates, managed to get game point in the fifth and final set. Hox should have wrapped up the game in the fourth and deciding set for them, with no-nonsense hitter Damien Robinson and setter Kati Apini but silly errors forced the deciding fifth set.
Uni cut down on their mistakes, controlled the defence and coordinated attack well but it was their patience that paid.
