University of Goroka to have students’ representative council

THE University of Goroka will organise a students’ representative council (SRC) soon, chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb says.
“Soon after you get settled into your respective study routines, I will get the university to arrange for an election of your students’ representative council to represent you on the university council,” he told students during the orientation.
“Along the lines of your schools – where you will have your own student government represented by elected representatives elected from the schools – they will make up your student representatives to take up issues confronting your studies.”
Sukwianomb said besides having a representative on the council, the university would not tolerate, encourage or support provincial groupings.
“The University of Goroka is a national university, and it stands for a united Papua New Guinea to build and groom national leaders,” he said. “I encourage each of you to think and act on behalf of the nation of Papua New Guinea ahead of personal interests.”
The previous SRC was dissolved following a student unrest at the campus, the council under Sukwianomb left student representations out to fully recover before taking them back.
