THE Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) is upgrading its water supply and sewerage system at a cost of K458,051, University vice-chancellor Prof Aisak Pue says.
“We have already signed a contract with an engineering firm for site investigations and feasibility studies.
“The project is scheduled for completion in 15 weeks,” he added.
Pue said the current university sewage system commenced operation when the university
was established as Vudal Agriculture College in 1965.
“Therefore, it urgently needs upgrading.
“The sewerage system, located near staff residences, poses a great (health) risk during rainy seasons.
“We hope the project will resolve human waste at the university in compliance with environmental and safety standards,” he added.
Pue said the study would also help improve water and sewerage facilities in the university.
