THE University of Goroka now has a new drone that will be used for school purposes as well as commercial arrangements.
The drone was bought by the Centre for Social and Creative Media (CSCM) with director Dr Lily Sar saying it would help them produce videos for projects undertaken by CSCM.
“A recently concluded UNDP project ‘In Search for Equilibrium’ had inserts done that did not really capture the village setting using a normal camera,” she said.
“But now, with the drone, you have a bird’s eye view, another layer to the image.”
Eggert Gunarrsen, film maker attached with CSCM, said: “This helps with the research part as we see the layout of a village or place despite it having road access or not.
“We bought a Go Pro camera in 2019, and that helped us to take underwater shots, something never done by CSCM before
and took cutaways of the reefs.”
Gunarrsen said the centre wanted to be self-sufficient, competitive and interesting in terms of quality project documentary making.
CSCM also has a memorandum of understanding in place with Digicel PNG where there are shared work experiences between them on film making and other areas.
