Letters

I AM writing in support of a letter from Concerned Parent in The National (Aug 2).
Recently, my sister-in-law went in to deliver at our very own public hospital in the nation’s capital and witnessed an incident where a young woman was mistreated by the health workers on duty that night. She was shouted at and told to shut up and deliver because she was in pain.
She fell off the bed and within a few seconds of hitting the floor, she delivered her baby on her waste. She called for help but she was told to clean up the mess before she could be attended too.
This incident scared a couple of young mothers who were waiting to deliver. I delivered couple of my children there and have witnessed such treatment as well but this latest incident is the worst.
Is this how health workers are trained to assist mothers who are in labour or ill?
