Outgoing Personnel Management Secretary John Kali has confirmed that the landlord of the Central Government Building has threatened to close the building because of non-payment of rent.
Kali said the Government had to pay the bills for the work that the landlord had done.
“As you can see, it is magnificent. It is the state of the art. So these people (landlord) have engaged a lawyer to shut down the building,” Kali said.
“I wrote to Finance to pay up the outstanding rental payments. If they don’t, the building will shut down. So they have extended their notice to next Wednesday. If we don’t pay up by then, they will shut down the building.
“We got very key departments housed here – Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, PNG Immigration Services Authority, Justice and Attorney-General, Office of the Censorship Board and Personnel Management.”
