Unprepared for virus

Letters

THE Health secretary Dr Paison Dakulala on Thursday stated that Port Moresby General Hospital has a 8-bed isolation facility to treat Covid-19 patients.
This is a slap in the face of the citizens of this country.
What is the eight beds compared to the 8 million population of this country?
The Health Minister and secretary are mocking the people of Papua New Guinea.
Imagine if 50 people are to be kept in isolation for 14 days? What are your plans?
What if the positive result spreads quickly like bush fire?
Where are you going to treat these people?
The isolation facility should have been set-up long before instead of being too complacent.
The number of people tested positive has increased exponentially overseas.
This trend is likely to happen in PNG.
The challenge to the Health minister and the secretary, get to the bottom of this and fix the isolation facility.
The minister has stated that we need quarantine facilities.
You as the minister responsible need do something about it.
Don’t expect miracles to happen.
Don’t risk our lives.
You are the government.
Wuhan in China, the epicentre of the coronavirus, it took 10 days to build a 1,000-bed hospital to treat victims of the epidemic.
That’s how serious they are.
While in PNG, the Health minister stated that they have just started building a 32-bed quarantine facility at 6-Mile.
He further stated that he will not reveal how much it costs and when it will be completed.
Life is more previous.
Prevention is better than cure.

Concern Citizen,
