IT is sad to learn that the last TNSL game of the Northern league between the Lae City Dwellers and Madang was spoiled by unruly, drunken supporters.

If it is true that LCD players and fans were intimidated and  harassed by their opponents’  supporters then the PNGFA and the NSL Board need to take tougher action on Madang FC and its management and supporters of bringing the NSL into disrepute.

One of their supporters had already admitted that such incident had actually occurred.

So it is now up to the NSL Board to decide on what action to take and it must stand firm to set a precedent that it is in charge and violence in sports is not condone.

Therefore, such stupid behaviour from supporters must never be allowed to happen again.

The leaders of MFC, both political and sports administrators have got a job to educate their team’s supports for the good of their team and the game we love.

Football hooliganism in Madang is not new; it has existed for a long time and it is time to do something to stop it happening in future.

An option is to move MFC’s home games to a more neutral venue; maybe in Goroka or Mt Hagen or even in one of the towns in the Islands region.
