UoG issue

Letters

SOMETHING is not right up there at the University of Goroka (UoG) and I, on behalf of the silent majority, would like to voice it out for public consumption and opinion.
The current UoG council in consultation with the top management is the most expensive council in the history of UoG.
It is observed that UoG council is comprised of mostly retired non-working members who are milking on UoG’s money bag that needs to be investigated immediately.
They fly in and out almost every two weeks to observe insignificant events that the university top management and staff can handle conveniently in a cost effective way.
They incur unnecessary cost to the university in terms of travelling allowances, hire car bills, accommodation bills etc.
This money could be used to upgrade the falling teaching and learning facilities and standards or hire qualified academics to provide quality education.
We’ve paid a lot of money in terms of school fees for our children and we would like to see them enjoy better facilities and resources provided by the university.
We expect them to be taught by qualified academics.
We want our institutions to be managed by credible managers and administrators.
We want the council members to be loyal to the cause of the institution and the nation rather than milking from it.
We want the NEC to appoint credible and working statesmen and women to take charge of the council membership.
