UOG students have right of speech

I AM baffled as to why students’ right to air their grievances are restricted at the University of Goroka (UO).

Universities are places where young leaders of tomorrow are allowed to express their intellectual capacities to think critically and solve issues affecting them.  Critical thinking to solve issues at the university level is part of their learning process to shape them to become good leaders of tomorrow.

They are guaranteed their freedom right to express themselves under the Constitution. Their rights should not be restricted.

How can you develop an individual capacity to solve problems when such restrictions are imposed on campus.

UOG had been plagued with student unrests, which are affecting their learning process.

There is no ending to this problem when the UOG administration takes short cut to solve issues affecting both the students and the university.

Every time when there is a student protest, the administration come down hard on them telling them that prop per process were not followed.

They end the problem by terminating those students who otherwise would be good leaders of tomorrow.

There is no problem with the vice chancellor. He is a good manager but when it comes to solving students’ problems, he opts for shortcuts to solve issues. Other universities have not done that as their administrations allow students to solve issues through critical thinking as part of their learning.
