Updating of electoral roll a failure

I WANT to express my disgust and concern over the current exercise to update the electoral roll by the  Electoral Commission.
I want to say that it has been a failure and a waste of taxpayers’ money.
As a resident in NCD, I noticed that some of the people involved are not volunteers but parasites getting paid for doing nothing and enjoying huge allowances.
They are not qualified and I believe most of them are settlement youths.
I see them roaming on hired cars and using the vehicles to transport cartons of beer on weekends.
I am questioning the EC because there are many jobless youths with diplomas and degrees who can do a more professional and thorough job than the current bunch.
The ultimate goal of this exercise is to ensure that all eligible voters’ names are on the electoral roll.
To achieve that goal, we need people who have experience and are qualified in strategising, project management and meeting schedule within budget to deliver the set objective.
We do not need illiterates who have no skills and knowledge.
I have not seen these people or their team leaders visiting offices to cross check the names of voters.
The current exercise is a waste of taxpayers’ money and I will not be surprised when the EC turns to the government asking for additional funding.
If this is happening in NCD, the country’s capital, I wonder what is happening at the remote places and villages where the bulk of the population is.
From what I can see, next year’s election will be a chaotic affair as the EC has proven to be unprofessional thus far.
