Upgrade school libraries

Letters

There has been a lot of talk recently regarding the standard of English language dropping in schools.
This is affecting communication standards in the working environment.
Most schools in PNG have been manipulated by Tok Pisin and local languages.
It has gone out of control and created poor English-speaking and writing.
Almost 65 per cent of schools have poor library facilities.
This has caused the level of reading to drop, which results in poor English standard.
It is time to start upgrading and updating the libraries.
Teachers have to take the initiative to build mini libraries in their respective or allocated classrooms.
In that way, it will slowly bring back the standard while Government looks to bring in teachers from abroad.
It is better to start involving students in effective reading and other avenues on improving English standard in their elementary and primary level.
This is so that it will not be difficult as they proceed into higher levels.
