UPNG appeals for public aid to assist students after fire

THE University of Papua New Guinea is appealing to members of the public to help students affected by the recent fire in one of its dormitories.It seeks donations of male clothing, beddings, towels, toiletries, stationery and lecture materials to help students in the second semester.Coordinator Kairu Laho said: “Students lost everything in the fire. Only a few managed to save an item or two. At this time, they are desperately in need of basic items to help settle into semester two.”She said they had received bags of clothes from people and some business houses, including The National newspaper, had pledged their assistance.The 150 students are accommodated at the neigbouring PNG Institute of Public Administration.Anyone wishing to assist can contact Laho on 3267 257 or 323 7132.Financial donations can be deposited into the UPNG Trust Account – 1000 583573, Bank South Pacific, clearly marked Lasitewa Fire Appeal or paid to the UPNG bursary on the same name.
