UPNG lecturers challenged

Letters

UNIVERSITY of Papua New Guinea is said to the premier university of the Pacific.
I do not know how it got that title. Maybe it’s because it is the oldest university or because of the academic performance of the school.
The learning and general facilities does not match that title. Hope you come and see it for yourself.
The general staff performance is below par.
For example, staff from the accounts department usually clock in at 10am or sometimes 10.30am. They serve us for two hours and go out for lunch (another one and a half hour, but actually they are supposed to have an hour lunch break). They return at 2pm and serve us for another two hours, and wind up for the day.
It takes us one whole day to get our account statement in which we sacrifice our classes to sort.
This is because of the lateness and slowness of the staff that leads to opportunity cost for us innocents’ students.
Furthermore, when you talk about transcripts, it will take you half a day to get.
If you are not competitive enough to work in the premier university of the Pacific, you better quit.

  • B. Galmai, who ever you are, your problem has nothing to do with lectures (as per tittle of letter). Lecturers are academic staff (they teach and conduct research) and do not work in the UPNG Accounts Department. Get you facts and information right before sending it in for publication
