UPNG students told to gain knowledge

UNIVERSITIES are places for intellectual development, says University of PNG vice-chancellor Professor Albert Mellam.
He told first-year students during their orientation this week that universities including UPNG “are places where diversity exists in unity for a common purpose of growing the students’knowledge frontiers”.
“UPNG is a place for creative intelligence, smart, innovative, entrepreneurial, ethical intelligence,” Mellam said.
He said it was the task of UPNG to prepare and develop graduates to have the intellectual ability which was disciplined, synthesising, creative and smart, respectful, entrepreneurial and ethical.
He told the students that the challenge to these values and themselves would take place once they left the university, but not until they were tested and developed during their studies.
“By developing values and abilities in our students, UPNG will play a role in creating a society of knowledge workers who through leadership can develop a brighter future for PNG.”
