PNG Hebou Barramundis opener Tony Ura was awarded the ICC EAP T20 championship player of the tournament on Saturday capping of a superb run scoring effort in the four-day event.
Ura scored 345 runs with an average of 59 including a century (102 against Samoa) and three 50s and a 48 in the final against Vanuatu last Thursday.
The 21-year-old tallied 13 votes out of a possible 18 to claim the award at the presentation and farewell function over the weekend.
Ura’s success caps off a great year for the Hula native having already won player of the tournament in last year’s Air Niugini Supa Series.
He was previously in Australia on a Brian Bell Future Stars scholarship with the Broadmeadows club in Melbourne.
He was also PNG’s top run-scorer at the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 event in Hong Kong in January.
Meanwhile, the Barras defeated a combined EAP XI led by former Australian spinner Brad Hogg on Saturday in a 50-over match.
Set 228 for victory, PNG reached the target with 18-year-old Sese Bau hitting 71 in the eightwicket win.
