Urban schools performing better: Adviser

Education

URBAN primary schools in Morobe performed better last year which saw the cut-off mark at 80 for all secondary schools in Lae.
Provincial education programme adviser Keith Jiram said cut-off mark was set at 80 but due to more spaces in rural high schools, the pass mark was lowered to 75 to allow more students to be taken in, to fill up the spaces.
“We have 13,098 grade eight students sat the exams last year.
“We have captured over 50 percent in selections, but still have a lot of spaces available in rural high schools,” Jiram said.
“Those names that came out met the cut-mark of 80, for high schools in the city.”
Jiram said they are still in the process of selection and 90 percent of those that sat the exams would be selected.
