THE United States Embassy handed over 40 ventilators to boost the country’s capacity to fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19).
Prime Minister James Marape, while receiving the ventilators from the US Ambassador to PNG, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands Erin McKee in Port Moresby yesterday, said that the ventilators would be distributed “on a need basis” across the country.
“This is not just for the Port Moresby General Hospital and the clinics in the National Capital District (NCD), but, more importantly, what the controller (David Manning) and deputy controller (Dr Paison Dakulala) are doing as far as having mobile clinics and temporary facilities as well,”he said .
“With the spike in Covid-19 in NCD, we are looking at setting up mobile clinics and temporary facilities and the Taurama Aquatic Centre is one of the places that we are looking at.
“So these 40 ventilators will assist us in that direction.”
McKee said the 40 ventilators would boost the country’s capacity to respond to the negative impact of the pandemic.
