UNITED States Congressman and chair of the Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security Homeland Defence and Foreign Operations in the House of Representative Jason Chaffetz has thanked the Papua New Guinea government for its ongoing support of the PNG LNG project.

He expressed gratitude when paying a courtesy call on Prime Minister Peter O’Neill in Port Moresby last Saturday.

Chaffetz was in the country to observe and analyse the state of security of the PNG LNG project and to get O’Neill’s views on this multi-billion kina investment by the US.

O’Neill assured the US official that the gas project was on schedule and would start exporting at middle of this year.

He said there was also noticeable investor confidence in PNG as a result of political stability in the coalition government.

“The PNG economy continues to experience positive economic growth, increasing our investment potentials to new levels.

“My government also promotes and embraces your interest to forge stronger trade and investment relations between our two countries and to become cordial Pacific partners,” O’Neill said

The prime minister also thanked the US government for its expression of confidence by investing in PNG as he welcomed other US firms looking at investing in PNG to feel free to do so.
