LAE city came alive over the weekend, with entertainments and humanitarian work on display by visiting navy personnel from USS Cleveland.
The string of events started with a public medical treatment given by a team at the Malahang aid post last Saturday morning.
The area was packed to capacity with more than 1,000 people but only 700 had medical examinations.
Mid-morning at the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium saw live music by another group of sailors.
With their rendition of jazz, rock and hip-hop, the musicians soon had the crowd yelling for more.
Lead singer Anton Dupreeze, lead guitarist Travis Smilen, bassist Joe Muzika and band leader chief Scott Helwig on drums set the perfect tempo.
The addition of trumpets and a saxophone had the people in raptures, with one music lover saying, “it sounded just like you hear it on the radio”.
The music was followed shortly after by a basketball game at the indoor stadium against a selected team.
