US team visits East Sepik

National, Normal

US EMBASSY chargé d’affaires Paul Berg visited Wewak, East Sepik province, recently and paid courtesy calls on the East Sepik provincial government officials.
Mr Berg expressed appreciation to the people of East Sepik and Papua New Guinea for their continuous hospitality in hosting the members of the US joint prisoners of war-missing in action (JPAC) team.
Joint field activity 09-1PP was conducted in PNG from Aug 2 to Sept 16 by members of JPAC in Warikum, Murai, Samun villages, East Sepik and Akiri village in Madang province.
The mission of the JPAC was to achieve the fullest possible accounting of all Americans missing as a result of the nation’s past conflicts.
The highest priority of the organisation was the return of any living Americans that remain prisoners of war.
To date, the US government had not found any evidence that there were still American PoWs in captivity from past US conflicts.
