THEATRE awareness is the best way to get the HIV/AIDS message across to illiterate people especially in the rural areas.
Central provincial HIV/AIDS council trainer Abau district Tony Worri said a theatre training was held in Mogubo village in the Amazon Bay in Abau from Oct 31 to Nov 4.
The training was coordinated by Amazon Bay Stop AIDS through its rural-based intervention programme to establish a theatre to conduct awareness through drama performances to the village people.
A total of 14 participants from different villages in the Abau area underwent a week-long training on basic HIV/AIDS, peer education and theatre performance.
He said it was identified that the dissemination of HIV information including those of other social issues was very effective through theatre performance.
“It exposes real life situation of the societies and clearly explains the root causes and its effects,” Worri said
Worri called on those from the Central provincial district office to support the work he was doing in the Abau district as they used the little resource they had with no support from the government.
“We are villagers and we need support to commemorate the World AIDS day in Abau on Dec 1,” Worri said.
