Usino-Bundi establishes flexible education programme

THE Usino-Bundi district in Madang has established the district flexible and open distant education (FODE) programme.
The facility was established by Pastor Joseph Itaki of the reformation ministry and churches network in Walium. It graduated 45 students last week.
Madang education director Moses Sariki said the programme was the best option for students who could not continue into high and secondary schools.
Sariki said the education department would introduce new curriculum in the programme which would enable those studying in FODE institutions to study the same subjects and topics as those in high and secondary schools.
He said the only difference was that those at FODE institutions studied at home.
Sariki said FODE students and those in high and secondary schools sit the same grade 10 or 12 national examinations.
He urged MPs to assist in funding FODE facilities so that the new curriculum and other FODE programmes could be rolled out.
