Vailima dominate finals

Sports

VAILIMA features in the National Capital District Volleyball Association’s men’s and women’s premier grade grand finals tomorrow for the first time in 13 years.
The deciders at the Taurama Aquatic Centre courts will see Vailima take on Edatec Scorpions in the men’s finale while their women face Telikom in the other final.
Scorpions have the size and power at the net to impose themselves on the opposition, with Sam Toa, Moha Opa, Ula Gima, Onne Koi and Giaralema Gima providing an intimidating presence.
Setter, jump-serving Alpha Pala, with great speed in his court movement complements the Scorpions power with enough finess and guile to make the stingers a formidable challenge.
The setter/hitter combination of Alpha and Toa has been producing results and is expected to continue for Scorpions.
Gerea Kila and Vali Kila both have height and are expected to lead Vailima’s blocks at the net in trying slow down the stingers’ artillery.
Graham Oeka, David John (solid jump server) and Paul Solomon are expected to form the reception base, and with their ball control and mobility, they should be able to stop the majority of the incoming missles from landing at back court.
Vailima setters Graham Numa and Peter Jack will ensure the setting options are right and hit point-scoring targets.
In the women’s decider, Vailima face Telikom in a clash where the telco’s best Bibiana Paloa, Kemmy Manoni, Madia Hairai, Alice Ilau, Jaynar Bernard, Dorothy Kivung and setters Frankie Daton and Fijian Meme Temu form an experienced and balanced outfit added to their structured style.
Vailima has Lois Garena and Patricia Gibson to shoulder most of their passing and offence with Bala Babaga covering the setting role and defensive cover.
Vailima have the mental edge, having beaten Telikom in their only encounter this season in round two and would be up to Anreka Garena, Mary Daure and Linder Simoi to help gun players Lois Garena and Gibson get the better of Telikom.
In the men’s A grade final, U-Mi Yet, led by Aussie Aaron Alsop,  face Jama, while in the women’s A grade final, Vailima take on Telikom.
