VAILIMA will clash with Scorpions in the men’s premier division of NCD Volleyball Association at the Taurama Indoor and Aquatic Centre on Saturday.
Vailima is on fifth place while Scorpions are running second after Vanama on the current rankings.
Vailima will be going into this match in high spirits after their upset win over third-ranked Jamas last Saturday.
Vailima’s setter Peter Jack was perfect with his fingers last Saturday and is expected to use similar tactics with their offence, feeding Graham Oeka, David Numa, Paul Solomon, and John Kila.
But this weekend, it is going to be a tougher assignment as he will be facing a taller opponent — current PNG setter Ula Gima — and his calculation and options must be spot on.
Scorpions have the height advantage in Moha Mea, Koi Onne, Gima and Simon Toua and their strength will be in power play outside.
Gima can vary attack in the middle.
This is an area for which Vailima’s blockers must work out a strategy to slow down the stingers’ artillery.
Scorpions will start as favourites because of the height and attack variety, but the tide can change if Vailima’s Jack plays his cards right.
In the other men’s matches, Vanama should prove too strong for One Six Pawa, U-Mi Yet is tipped score another win against Strive Stars, Ela Motors will have a tough assignment against Laudanu and Jamas will be up against Telikom.
In the women’s premier divison, Telikom will be stretched by Jamas, Scorpions will face a tough encounter against Jamas, U-Mi Yet will pour all they have at Strive Stars, while Ela Motors will face a huge challenge when they face ADF Laudanu.
