THE expression “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” became a reality for Milne Bay soccer players in Alotau last month.
Soccer balls, uniforms and boots gathered by the Australian based charity organisation Vakuta PNG Help Group were distributed at Alotau’s Christian Life Centre.
Vakuta founder, Grace Hull from the Trobriand Islands and Gabbie Eddowes from Baimuru, Gulf, left their husbands and children in Australia to spend the New Year holiday celebrations distributing the contents of a shipping container.
Apart from the sports equipment that the group gathered were medical beds, linen, towels, medical equipment, books, clothes and toys.
All will be distributed to the Alotau General Hospital, Trobriand Islands and Samarai health centres as well as other village health centres, aid posts and to village birth attendants.
All the items were collected from the Newcastle General Hospital and other collection points in the New South Wales Central Coast organised by the charity group.
All the recipients of the sports equipment wasted no time trying out their soccer skills with their “new found treasure”.
