Vanimo needs proper market, says Mirisim

TELEFOMIN MP Solan Mirisim says the West Sepik capital of Vanimo needs a proper market as one of the infrastructure projects to boost economic growth in the province.
Mirisim said West Sepik wanted to grow out of the “least developed province” label, and move to the top in terms of its socio-economic indicators.
During the K35.9 million ground-breaking ceremony for the Vanimo airport upgrading yesterday, Mirisim said people wanted services.
“Let Vanimo be an international airport. But 85 per cent of our people in West Sepik live inland. They need new roads or the resealing of some of the old roads,” Mirisim said.
Lisa Eddie, a vendor at the Vanimo town market, yesterday told The National that they had to sell their items out in the open.
Eddie supported Mirisim saying vendors needed proper shelter and toilet facilities at the market.
Eddie said the vendors used the beach to relieve themselves.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, who spent a night in Vanimo, agreed with the need for a market, a teachers college and the resealing of the Vanimo town roads.
