Vatican announces Fr Durero as new bishop for Daru-Kiunga diocese

THE Vatican has appointed vicar general of the archdiocese of Madang Rev Fr Joseph Tarife Durero (pictured) as the new bishop of the Daru-Kiunga diocese.
The announcement was made after Rev Gilles Cote SMM resigned after reaching the age limit.
The Catholic church said in a statement that the Apostolic Nunciature (Embassy of the Holy See – Vatican) in PNG was informed that Pope Francis had accepted Rev Cote’s resignation.
“At the same time, the Holy Father has appointed Bishop of Daru-Kiunga Rev Fr Joseph Tarife Durero SVD until now Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Madang.”
Fr Durero, from the Philippines ,was born on April 13, 1969 in Dap, Surigao del Norte.
He was ordained on Dec 12, 1995, and is a member of the Society of the Divine Word.
In Papua New Guinea, Fr Durero has served in Yomba, was the dean of Madang Deanery and was SVD district superior in Madang district.
He was also the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Madang in 2013.
In 2018, he become administrator of the Holy Spirit Cathedral Parish, Madang, and SVD PNG provincial council member.
