Vabukori Amateur Volleyball Association (VAVA) have set a strong foundation to defend their crown for a 10th successive year.

VAVA continued their incredible form to remain unbeaten through to the preliminary finals of the national championships held at the Papua New Guinea Institute of Public Administration oval yesterday.

The nine-times premiers will face Huon Gulf from Morobe, who surprised the nation’s capital teams Fairfax and NCD, to secure the top spot after some years in the wilderness.

It’s all pressure against VAVA who are determined to create history in PNG volleyball.

Visitors Huon Gulf have come this far and have nothing to lose but are eager to shock their opponents for the major tag and the only team to dethrone is VAVA.

The Morobeans are aware of the mammoth tasks ahead of them and will ensure that they stop their opposition’s force.

Early tournament favourites NCD and Fairfax were bundled out and played off with the latter winning the third spot.

In the women’s grand final it will be an all Fairfax affair as the reigning champions White takes on Blue after shocking Huon Gulf and NCD in the semi-finals.

The women’s third place playoff is between Huon Gulf and VAVA while the U21 is between VAVA and Hula. The men’s U21 will see VAVA going up against Hula, in a wantoks affair.
