VC’s Cup kicks off at UPNG

 THE all university’s Vice-Chancellor’s Rugby League Cup kicked off in Port Moresby at the University of PNG oval yesterday.

Ten teams will compete in the four-day event with hosts UPNG with four teams namely 2012 champions the Medical Faculty, Pythons, Papuan Blacks and Lions. 

The other six teams are Unitech Spartans, Commandos, Bulolo Pines, Rabaul Vudal, Pacific Adventist University’s 14-Mile Rebels and the University of Goroka Nokondis competing in two pools of five. 

UNRE (Oro campus) and  Divine Word University were unable to attend due to financial reasons.

The competition has a reputatioj for unearthing promising players and showcasing the talent at these institutions.

This is an annual tournament open to all universities in the country.

Hosts UPNG boosts with prominent campaigners start as the favourites for one of their four teams to defend the crown against Nokondis, Vudal and Unitech.

After the pool matches and quarter finals the grand final will be played on Friday.

In the first pool match hosts UPNG Pythons stopped Unitech Spartans 10- 4.
