THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) will host the rematch of the Vice-Chancellors Cup final this weekend between the University of Technology Spartans and the University of PNG Pythons with the final to be a curtain raiser match for the Digicel Cup grand final.
The organising committee for the cup confirmed on Monday that the suspended final from last month was now going to be a curtain raiser for the Waghi Tumbe/Lae Tigers grand final at the Oil Search National Football on Sunday.
Committee member Max Andrew told The National yesterday that both teams were notified of the decision from the PNGRFL to host the grand final rematch.
“We received confirmation from the PNGRFL about the rematch on Monday so we went ahead and informed both sides that there would be a game,” he said.
“The PNGRFL board have agreed to come on board and assist with the logistics and finances in getting the Spartans into Port Moresby for Sunday’s rematch.
“It’s a big relief for us because when we had a hard time managing and sending teams off after suspending the final.”
