Vegetable farmer’s new bus proves hard work pays off

HARDWORK paid off vegetable farmer Freeda Kawagle from Gembogl in north Chimbu when she picked up her new Toyota Coaster bus at Goroka Ela Motors last Friday.
Kawagle expressed satisfaction with tears of joy when she received the keys from Kundiawa MiBank branch manager Margaret Korak.
She conceded that she waited long for the moment to come, saving money she had earned from selling her garden produce with Mi Bank for the last two years.
“When I saved the money I made from my sales, there were always family and community commitments that warrant us to make contributions that deprived me of saving,” she said
“Two years ago, I decided to save money with MiBank at the Kundiawa branch and when I was asked to get a loan. I applied and now I have the new bus.”
Kawagle said when the bank informed her that she was qualified to get a new bus, she was happy and thanked her husband John Pandum for supporting her.
“I also thank MiBank who is always ready to help us the grassroots,” she said.
“With the road condition into Gembogl now being upgraded and sealed, I will be happy to provide PMV services for my people.”
She wrote “GHP” (gak hokup pre) which means in her Kuman dialect “For future children” on her bus.
MiBank Kundiawa branch manager Margaret Korak said Kawagle had been a consistent client and was a regular saver.
