FORMER Port Moresby General Hospital chief executive officer Sam Vegogo will head Popondetta Hospital temporarily replacing Dr Gunzee Garwin.

Health Minister Michael Malabag said it would be for only two months to ease tension at the hospital.

“This is an interim arrangement for the next two months and Vegogo will be the caretaker CEO until such time all tension eased,” he said.

Malabag said Gawin had been cleared of charges against him and there was no reason to remove him as chief executive officer of the hospital.

“Any removal must come with substantial reasons. Unless he is at fault he cannot be removed,” Malabag said.

Northern Governor Gary Juffa said Vegogo had a wealth of experience.

“With his great management experience and management skills, I am sure Vegogo will manage things well in the next two months.”

Juffa warned those causing tension and making false allegations against Gawin to stop them.

“All those trying to create tension thus depriving and halting medical attention must be diverted to me,” he said.

“Many people in the province are angry and frustrated with these people who have come up with these allegations because for so long they have been deprived of the proper health service that they are now receiving.

“Physically those that are involved do not serve the interests of the Oro people but their own.”
