FOUR people died and 19 are in a critical condition at the Port Moresby General Hospital after an accident at Cape Rodney, Central.

Nine others were taken to hospital for further treatment yesterday.

Central police commander Laimo Asi said the accident happened between Bam and Moreguina station last Friday.

“A PMV loaded with more than 30 passengers was heading towards the city when it collided with a Land Cruiser which is believed to have been heading into Robinson River Plantation,” Asi said.

“Traffic police attended to the scene and moved the four bodies – three from the PMV and one from the Land Cruiser – with 19 others who were injured to the hospital.”

The deceased are a male from Manus, a female and the PMV driver from the Cloudy Bay area. The PMV belongs to villagers of Bam.

Asi said no charges had been laid yet, but he visited the hospital yesterday to see the injured victims, including the driver of the Land Cruiser.

“I have yet to confirm the number of travelling passengers on the PMV and for those others travelling on the land cruiser,” Asi said.

He said, nine other people injured in the accident were taken to the hospital for further examination including two children, one male and a female.

“The girl lost her right leg and her mother is one of the deceased.”
