Vehicle owner pays K10,000 each for deaths at Gordon

THE families of the three people who died in a road accident in Port Moresby have each been paid K10,000 in compensation.
The three died when they were struck by a ute which went off the road at Gordon police barracks.
The owner of the vehcile, Agnes Arua, who was not driving, apologised to the families and gave them the money to help with the funeral expenses. The money was handed over in the presence of senior police officers including Central and the National Capital District commander Donald Yamasombi and Superintendent administration Chris Tamari.
Julius Aijau, a relative of one of the victims, said police guaranteed Arua’s safety and the security of her properties and vehicle.
Arua agreed that a second meeting will be held after the haus krai. The vehicle will be left at the barracks until the driver has been arrested and charged.
Salle said a 19-year-old man they thought was the driver had been released. The officers thanked Arua for accepting the responsibility although someone else was driving her vehicle.
Rendford Petrus, 25, has been buried in Maprik in East Sepik. Stanley Japele, 20, was buried at Lealea village outside Port Moresby last Saturday. Dilen Sani, 21 was buried at the Nine-Mile cemetery on Monday.
