ALOTAU police transportation needs were boosted with vehicles and funds of more than K500,000, from Alotau MP Charles Abel and Samarai-Murua MP Gordon Wesley’s district support improvement grants on Dec 11.
The three vehicles worth K33,700 were Mr Abel’s allocation and they would be used in highway patrols, according to provincial police commander Sr Insp Lincoln Gerari.
Mr Abel, who is also Civil Aviation, Culture and Tourism Minister, also presented a cheque  for K250,000 for general police operations.
Sr Insp Gerari said they were fortunate to receive the vehicles and funds which he said  would be put to good use.
“There will be transparency and accountability for all monies that we’ve received,” he said.
Sr Insp Gerari said the vehicles would be used on routes along the East Cape area, the border of Milne Bay and Central, and the third unit  would be stationed in town.
Meanwhile, Mr Wesley allocated K250,000 for police to buy a half cabin dinghy, improve its communication system and buy ammunition.
