THE Port Moresby Nature Park received two new buses from Ela Motors yesterday.

The buses will help with the park’s school excursion programme and for the transportation of tourists.

Park general manager Michelle McGeorge said the 15-seater and 25-seater buses would help them promote the country’s flora and fauna through the school excursion programme that was sponsored by Esso Highlands, as well as  provide tourists with transport to the park.

“The park provides a PNG-based curriculum that helps students experience the practical part of their classroom learning about the environment, plants and animals,” McGeorge said.

“Many students want to come for excursions but cannot due to transport problems and now I cannot wait to see the buses on the road.”

Handing the keys of the vehicles to McGeorge, Ela Motors chief executive David Purcell said the company always had a goal to help educate children.

Purcell said to sponsor a world class facility such as the nature park was a positive partnership that promoted the capital city as a better place to live in.

Shabaka Gibson of Esso Highlands said their sponsorship was to ensure the next generation knew about their flora and fauna and were well-equipped to maintain and sustain the environment.

National Capital District Commission city manager Lesley Alu made a commitment to refuel the buses twice a week at the city depot.
