POLICE in Madang have been given 11 new vehicles and should have no problems moving around to attend to crime in the province.

The vehicles were purchased for K1.4 million at Ela Motors in Madang using the provincial support improvement programme funds.

Provincial police commander Chief Supt Sylvester Kalaut said police in the province had been concerned about the lack of transport to carry out their work.

Vehicles were given to Usino, Bogia and Ramu police stations; Madang rural command, community policing, traffic and  rapid response unit; Ramu rapid response unit, support unit, CID and the PPC support.

“Officers in charge of each unit have been put on notice to ensure their men use the vehicle for its intended purposes,” Kalaut said.
