VENDORS who were at the former Gordon market will be given the first opportunity at the new market when it opens next month.
After those vendors have been accommodated, chances will then be given to others who meet the criteria set out by of the National Capital District Commission.
Tables have also been allocated to Bomana prison for members of the prison’s Women’s Wing to sell their produce.
Market manager Charlie Pengi said that according to city manager Bernard Kipit, the market will open in the middle of next month.
Between now and the opening, fresh produce vendors are encouraged use community markets closest to where they live.
The commission is discouraging vendors from selling vegetables near the Gordon bus top, saying it is illegal. Betel nuts and cigarettes are also not allowed to be sold in public places in the city, it said.
NCDC has allocated two temporary markets. “We have identified Tete and Gerehu markets as the two wholesale markets for vendors to sell their vegetables while waiting for the new market to open,” deputy city manager Ted Lulu said.
“Erima market will be opened to vendors in early May.”
