THE National Executive Council has appointed Albert Veratau to a four-year term as chief executive of the Papua New Guinea Sport Foundation.
Sports Minister Wesley Raminai congratulated Veratau on his appointment.
“Albert brings with him a vast experience in sports management and development,” he said in a statement yesterday.
“I think it is good for the sporting sector in this country.”
At a small but significant gathering in Port Moresby on Tuesday, deputy foundation chairman John Kapi Natto also echoed the same sentiments.
He said the foundation needed good administrators, considering the growth of sporting activities with the engagement of corporate bodies.
At the time of his appointment, Veratau was national marketing and corporate affairs manager of a company.
He served as strategic adviser to the Vice-Sports Ministry and Apec from 2017-2019.
Veratau was the British American Tobacco external affairs head, PNG Rugby League chairman, South Pacific Brewery national marketing manager and a director of other statutory bodies.
Raminai told the foundation staff to practise friendship and professionalism to improve the image and reputation of the organisation.
“I expect some working progress amidst Coronavirus pandemic to making sure we deliver on our mandate,” he said.
“With the new chief executive, I expect the foundation chairman, deputy chairman and commissioners to refocus and realign their visions to the new
National Sports Policy 2020-2050.”
Veratau thanked the Government for having confidence in him and he vowed to do his best for sports development in the country.
He also thanked Micah James acting in the caretaker role.
