Vessel is not the answer for Abau

THE report about the capsizing of mv Abau off Iruone village along Aroma Coast is very disappointing.
It is a relief to the district and the people of Abau that there were no reports of death from the tragedy.
I recall a report in The National a couple of years ago about the launch of a vessel at Kapari village.
During that launch, the Abau MP said the vessel was built in Milne Bay at a cost of K900,000.
It was intended to transport people from remote parts of Kupiano and further into Port Moresby to sell their agricultural produce or seafood.
Since then, the vessel has been berthing at the Kupiano jetty because, I believe, the district does not have the budget to operate the vessel.
The vessel is unable to generate any income because it does not have the capacity to transport heavy equipment, thus it cannot be hired to investors in the logging industry in the district.
I would say this is a bad investment by the Abau district administration.
I am raising this issue because I have not heard or seen the Abau five-year development plan where the procurement of mv Abau was a priority.
How much will be allocated towards the recovery and repair of the vessel?
Is it really worth to keep it going?
I think the Abau JDPBPC should maintain the Kore-Aroma Highway and assist the people affected by the recent flooding.
