VEUPUNAMA sounded a warning in the premier division of Port Moresby Netball after pushing Rebels all the way on Saturday at the Rita Flynn Courts before going down 51-47.

The girls from the Hood Lagoon area in Central stunned the crowd with their determined performance against Rebels a genuine premiership contender.

Veupunama started strongly dominating every facet of play in the first quarter.

The girls in blue and white got back on track when returning star player Lua Mavara-Rikis was injected to take up the shooting role.

The change had the desired effect with Rebels regaining lost ground in the second quarter.

In the other premier match, Sparrows hammered Monier Paramana 47-38 in a tough game.

Despite the absence of star players Kilala Owen, Nerrie Adula and Margaret Eka away on national duties, Sparrows turned out the better side with the services of experienced Dianne Kala-Lahari leading while Jacklyn Lahari and 15-year-old Jepheth Tulapi played well contributing to their victory.
