LOCALS illegally occupying State land in Minj and Banz town in Jiwaka have been urged to vacate them for town development.

A chief from Nondugl district, Kantz Kindin, expressed his concern recently about the illegal claiming of State land in the province.

Kindin said Jiwaka was a new province and needed land for future development. He welcomed the provincial executive council’s decision to build the new provincial headquarters at Kurumul village.

He said Kurumul was a central location and located along the Okuk Highway where people from the three electorates could easily access.

“I want to appeal to the Kisu and Demana landowners to move away from the 182 hectares of land secured by the provincial government to build the headquarters,” he said.

Kindin said the landowners must move out to give more space to the town and provincial headquarters.

He urged landowners to invite other people in North, South and Jimi districts to come and develop the area by putting up stores and other buildings.

He urged other Jiwakans investing in other provinces to return to Jiwaka.

Paul Kuli from Anglimp urged the three MPs from the district to help fund the provincial headquarters.

Kuli said at a meeting in Kurumul two weeks ago that local MPs had priorities for their districts but should chip in money to help Governor Dr William Tongamp.
