THE people of 6-Mile in the Moresby North-East electorate turned on the taps for the first time yesterday and with it flowed tears of joy.
Thanks to funding from local MP Labi Amaiu, the settlement of Bodiam with a population of more than 25,000 saw water serviced from seven communal taps.
Amaiu announced that K100,000 was committed to getting a tank next week and an ablution built in a week’s time to complement the water supply.
The MP was hailed as being the first politician to bring water into the community which had no proper water system despite being located near the main road.
Seven communal taps were put in Bodiam 2 yesterday through a combined funding of K25,000 from Amaiu and Eda Ranu as part of its obligation project.
Bodiam 1 will get another seven communal taps in a week’s time -result of another combined funding of K25,000.
“This is a service which people have every right to I will continue to bring more services and build a foundation for your children,” Amaiu promised.
“You are producing children like mushrooms and water is one essential need that will lay the foundation for more services to come if you change your attitudes and take good care of such services.”
